GEM (Global Environmental Multiscale) is Canada's operational model. It provides a genuinely independent forecast from a different modelling centre, which is exactly what makes a consensus valuable.
GEM is particularly well tuned for northern latitudes and cold-weather systems. Its inclusion widens the spread of the consensus and helps flag when the other models might be over-confident.
